Sébastien Leger played an integral role in putting french house music on the map in the 90’s. He managed to effectively combine the “french touch” filtered disco vibe with a touch of progressive house. We flocked to shops to grab all of his releases on Black Jack, Cyclik, Riviera, Subkroniq, and 20000st. So many great tunes! In recent years, his sound has continued to lean more on the progressive side. Mr. Leger’s latest release is a three track EP on his label Mistakes Music. Sébastien is very vocal about his distaste for file sharing and has recently documented his feelings regarding distribution company Neuton going bankrupt earlier this week. With distributors shutting their doors and file sharing (blogs included) on the rise, he has all the right in the world to be concerned. As fans of his work we respect his wishes and will not post any tracks for download. PLEASE DO click through, listen to his work, purchase it on vinyl/mp3, and go see him DJ. We encourage you to share your opinion(s) on how we and the rest of the blogosphere help/hinder putting money in artists pockets.
“We’re just two kids who got bored one day, re-discovered Daft Punk’s ‘Homework’, got drunk and decided to swap our guitars for synths,” says Lee Dunn and Chris Petty otherwise known as “Youth Attack!” They have remixed tunes from Digitalism, The Ting Tings, Late of the Pier and have provided us with their latest rub of Tiga’s “Mind Dimension.” This one reminds us a bit of The Chemical Brothers sound. Sure to go down well in big room sets. These guys also run a monthly club night called “Kill The Rhythm” in Harrogate, United Kingdom so if you are in the area go out and support. Give the tune a listen and let us know what you think!

Mikix The Cat is the latest artist to be scooped up by the Trouble & Bass crew and Beatproviders. The young producer has been knocking out bass heavy tunes from his home in the suburbs of Paris. Growing up listening to early Kraftwerk, Luke Skywalker’s ‘Miami Bass’ as well as Wu tang Clan led to his 4X4 wobbling bass rave sound. His music is not for the faint of heart. Check it out and let us know what you think!
For those of you that live outside of southern California….Banana Split is a weekly Sunday night party in LA hosted by DJ AM, Steve Aoki, and Mike B. A couple of weeks ago they celebrated the two year anniversary with an all-star lineup including Busy P, Jesse from MSTRKRFT, and DJ Falcon. Mike B was kind enough to record the sets and share the recordings with us. Make sure you check out his blog and stop by LAX nightclub next time you are in LA on a Sunday night. The lineups are epic!
Here is a little taste of what went down that night:
